Akitu: Cyrus Takes Babylon, 539 BCE
The Babylonian Chronicle records that Babylon was captured on the 16th of Tašrîtu, the equivalent of October 12 on the Julian Calendar (or October 6 on the Gregorian Calendar), which was the night before the akitu festival in honor of Sin, the moon god.
