Prometheism was a strategic political project spearheaded by Józef Piłsudski, a central figure in the Second Polish Republic. Active between 1918 and 1935, the initiative sought to reshape the geopolitical landscape of Eastern Europe by destabilizing major imperial powers.
The core objective of the movement was to weaken the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union. This was pursued by fostering and supporting nationalist independence movements among the diverse non-Russian ethnic groups residing within those territories, aiming to fragment the centralized power of the state through internal liberation efforts.
