The Atlantic Wall was a massive defensive network constructed by Nazi Germany between 1942 and 1944. Stretching along the coastlines of continental Europe and Scandinavia, the system was designed to prevent an anticipated Allied invasion from the United Kingdom.
The fortifications were primarily managed by the German Army, with additional support from Luftwaffe ground forces. The Kriegsmarine also operated a distinct, specialized coastal defense network organized into specific sea defense zones to protect against maritime threats.
