The Lyres of Ur, also known as the Harps of Ur, are a collection of four stringed instruments discovered at the Royal Cemetery at Ur in modern-day Iraq. Excavations beginning in 1922 revealed these instruments in a fragmentary state, dating back to the Early Dynastic III Period of Mesopotamia, approximately 2550 to 2450 BC.
These artifacts are recognized as the world's oldest surviving stringed instruments. Following extensive restoration and reconstruction, the lyres are now preserved and displayed in museums across the United Kingdom, the United States, and Iraq.
